Equal Opportunities and Diversity in Student and Academic Services
With the development of a coordinated and comprehensive diversity strategy and the recognition of equal opportunities and diversity policy as a cross-cutting issue for all areas of activity of the university – research, studying, teaching, knowledge transfer and knowledge management – the University of Göttingen is tackling the demands faced by a forward-looking university as a result of social change: it is open to new target groups and enables them to participate equally, on the understanding that gender equality and diversity orientation is a core task in the development of higher education. This includes reducing discrimination and ensuring that the target groups receive respect and support. The university pursues an inclusive and transformative diversity strategy, which sees the ongoing development of the university itself towards becoming an inclusive, learning organisation on the one hand and the transformative effects in the city and region of Göttingen, as well as its campus on the other as closely interconnected processes.
